Other news

This might be post overload - but I thought that our news deserved to stand alone.

First, Eamon. Eamon has been diagnosed with Pervasive Developmental Disorder. Essentially, PDD refers to the group of disorders that encompass the autism spectrum. At this time, he hasn't been given a specific diagnosis - he's not really old enough to make a definitive diagnosis of Asperger's or similar. We are currently working on getting him into the school district for speech and early intervention services, and will continue to reevaluate him periodically. His doctor has given us some good techniques to use with him, and so far, he seems to be doing a bit better.

And second, we're expecting again! #3 is due November 2, so right after Quinn's 2nd birthday, and we're beyond excited. Eamon didn't believe us when we told him, until we were able to show him the ultrasound pictures, and now he goes around announcing that there's a baby in mommy's belly. He's also decided that one of his stuffed animals is his baby, and he diapers it, feeds it, reads to it. He's going to make a good big brother. And Quinn just seems a little oblivious. We showed him the pictures, and he tried to eat them. Of course, he's still a little young to grasp the concept of pregnancy and younger siblings, but I'm sure that by the time baby comes, he'll be ready to help out, just like Eamon did when Quinn was born.

We got SNOW!

Yes, we actually got snow this winter. Of course, it came after winter was officially over, but hey, I'll take it. This was Quinn's first time really playing in the snow, and he was in heaven. A couple of pictures of the boys - there's more on my Picasa, if you're interested!

Eamon's big birthday present!

So Eamon's latest passion is trains. He loves Thomas the Train, loves anything to do with trains, and this was his big birthday present. Something tells me it was a hit.

Damn it, another month gone by already!

I keep swearing to be better about blogging, and then fall down on the job. So much for the New Years resolution, right?

We've been busy. Mostly with the sickies - the boys and I are headed to the doctor this afternoon to have them checked out thanks to nasty coughs (both their daycare provider and I heard Eamon coughing and had flashbacks to December's bout with pneumonia!). My shift changes at work at the end of the month - I'm back to working nights again, which sucks for the family life but at least allows me time in the mornings to do things like doctor's appointments and such.

Eamon had his speech evaluation a couple of weeks ago, and the results came back. He's anywhere from a year to a year and a half delayed in his speech, but the therapist felt comfortable saying that he would catch up quickly. He's supposed to have two therapy appointments each week going forward, and they'll work with him on his enunciation and with learning to make specific sounds he struggles with. The week after next he will go in for a developmental evaluation, as there are some behaviors that are concerning to his pediatrician and myself and Garry, so I'll update on that afterwards.

Quinn's a talking machine now - more, milk, mama, dada, cup, bath, hot, no, outside... yeah, he's a talkative little guy. It's been weird realizing how much he talks in comparison to Eamon at the same age, and sometimes it's hard not to feel a little guilty that I didn't push harder when Eamon was this age to have a speech evaluation done. But I know that ultimately I did get him evaluated, and that's the important thing. It's just fun to watch Quinn picking up on words so quickly and starting to use them more and more.

Out of time for now, will update this weekend with zoo pictures from last week hopefully!
